Position: Forest Engineering Technician
Job Summary:
The Forest Engineering Technician is responsible for providing technical support and assistance in forest engineering projects. This role involves gathering data, conducting surveys, and assisting with the design and implementation of forest engineering plans. The Forest Engineering Technician will collaborate closely with forestry professionals, engineers, and other team members to ensure the successful execution of projects related to forest management and sustainable resource utilization.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct field surveys and assessments to collect data on forest resources, including timber volume estimation, tree species identification, and forest inventory.
2. Assist in the design and layout of forest engineering projects, such as road construction, logging operations, and land reclamation.
3. Conduct topographic surveys and gather geospatial data using GPS and other surveying equipment.
4. Assist in the development and implementation of forest management plans to optimize resource utilization and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
5. Prepare technical reports, maps, and drawings using appropriate software and tools.
6. Collaborate with forestry professionals and engineers to evaluate and propose solutions for forest engineering challenges.
7. Provide technical support for the maintenance and operation of forest engineering equipment and tools.
8. Follow safety protocols and adhere to environmental regulations during fieldwork and project execution.
9. Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and technological advancements related to forest engineering.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Environmental Science, Forestry, or a related field.
2. Strong knowledge of forest management principles, practices, and regulations.
3. Proficient in conducting field surveys, data collection, and analysis.
4. Familiarity with forest measurement techniques, including timber cruising and inventory methods.
5. Ability to interpret topographic maps and navigate using GPS equipment.
6. Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
7. Proficient in using computer software and tools for technical reporting and mapping (e.g., GIS, CAD).
8. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
9. Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
10. Physical stamina and willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
11. Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as required.
